Viktor Israel Strand is a Swedish visual artist and filmmaker whose practice spans short films, feature-length cinema, and fine arts. His early engagement with moving images materialized in Makrillen (2014), a short film that marked his inaugural entry into the cinematic field. Strand’s critical recognition, however, was solidified with Peggy (2015), a work that garnered institutional validation through screenings at the Gothenburg International Film Festival and the Uppsala Short Film Festival, as well as an Honorable Mention at Pixel Film Festival.
Continuing his cinematic exploration, Strand engaged in a collaborative project with Celine Orman, resulting in Timber (2017), which was again selected for the Uppsala Short Film Festival, reinforcing his presence in Scandinavian short film circles. In 2018, he shifted toward artistic academia, enrolling at Malmö Art Academy where he earned a Master of Fine Arts.
2024 marks a pivotal moment in Strand’s oeuvre with the premiere of his debut feature film, It Is Lit, at the International Film Festival Rotterdam—an institution renowned for its curation of avant-garde and auteur cinema. Concurrently, he is set to release The Land of a Character, a short film that further expands his exploration of cinematic narrative and visual experimentation.
